Director and script writer.... ROSMINAH MOHD TAHIR



BORN in Muar, Johor, she obtained her Master Degree in Theatre from USM. Among her stage works include Dadah (1983), Pahlawan (1987), Nostalgia (1990) Merdeka (1990), Sang Singa (1990) and Api (1991). Her radio drama comprise of (1970-1992) Adik Ku Sayang, Nenek, Penyambung kasih, Kabut Pun Berlalu, Laungan Keramat, Terima kasih Cikgu, Nasi Lemak Sebungkus, Di Alun Gelombang, Dusun Tok Ayah and Saat Terakhir. Followed by stage drama, Satu (1993), Gadis Melayu (1994), Seru dan Syukur (1998), Tanjong Joget 1999) and Masuri (2000). Her monodrama scripts include Alim (2003) and Kopi Pangku (2005).
She had close relationship with Datin Seri Endon Mahmood. Her poetry, Kata Kasih Mahkota Hati brought Datin Endon Mahmood to recite it in public. Hakikat Damai was the last poetry that Datin Seri Endon was able to recite be fore she returned to her Creator.
The theater Anugerah (1996) adapted by Zaharah Nawawi’s novel became the turning point for her to write stage drama commercially. Following which, Lantai T.Pinkie (1997) authored by Datuk A.Samad Said became the first most expensive theatre during those days. The theatre was later being staged thrice before it turned musical; Muzikal Lantai T.Pinkie.The Musical was staged in Istana Budaya (2006) and in Ipoh, Perak (2007).
She also directed and wrote scripts for Malam Haram karya Ku Seman Ku Husein and bangsawan Tengku Anum, original play by Morad Ibrahim. The theater Puteri Hang Lipo directed by her in Istana Budaya became a box-office. Other theatres directed by her are Cucu (1995), A Modern Woman (1996 was brought to Experimental Theatre Festival in Cairo), Cik Ros (1999), Raden Galoh (2000), Medea (2000), Monodrama Alim (2003), Kopi Pangku (2005), Kesuma (2007) and Nyonya (2008).
She also wrote lyrics, which are mainly shown in her musicals. The peak of her achievement was her lyrics Hantara Hati was in the finals for Anugerah Juara Lagu 2006.
She is now the Head of Department for Theatre in National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) and the vice-president of MWWA.
